Shams Foundation

Transforming lives

As a 501(c)3 non-profit, we aim to provide surgical and medical support to individuals with congenital or traumatic anomalies of the face.

Our
Story

Get to Know Us

Alex and Louis Ortiz have been dreaming about providing medical and surgical care to those in need since they met at Duke University in 2008.

Fast forward 15 years, and Alex Ortiz is a board-certified Otolaryngologist and Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon.  Through her medical training, she has fostered her passion for global surgery by participating in multiple surgical missions around the world.

Now, we want to contribute in a bigger way. We are building the Shams Foundation to help support global cleft and craniofacial surgical efforts in a safe and sustainable fashion.

How Are Funds Used?

Funds are used to support ongoing mission efforts that provide cleft and craniofacial surgical care. This may include medicines, surgical supplies, devices, and materials not otherwise covered by insurance or government programs.

Bylaws

One of the things we wanted when launching the foundation was to be completely transparent in the way we were doing things - to that end we wanted to share the bylaws that govern the organization. Happy to answer any questions you might have!
